Building a John Welsford Pathfinder: Vor dem Bauen / Before building

Wann genau ich mich dazu entschieden habe einen 'Pathfinder' zu bauen weiss ich nicht mehr. Dass es ein weiteres Schiff aus der Feder von John Welsford (http://www.jwboatdesigns.co.nz/) sein soll, war nach dem Bau unseres SCAMP's Baba klar (http://scamp.substyle.ch/). Während des Baus merkten wir immer mehr wie sehr durchdacht das Design ist. Und als wir Baba endlich segeln konnten, überzeugten auch die hervorragenden Segeleigenschaften des kleinen Cruisers. Der Blogg von Lorenzo (http://pathfinderastrid.blogspot.com/) und sein fertiges Schiff Astrid haben bestimmt einiges dazu beigetragen, dass ich mich für den Pathfinder entschieden habe. Allgemein wird der Pathfinder für seine Stabilität, sein Segelverhalten und sein geräumiges und aufgeräumtes Cockpit gerühmt. Ebenso ist es möglich, mit dem Schiff direkt auf den Strand zu fahren. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt.
Die Pläne waren schnell bestellt und nachdem ich diese studiert hatte war klar, dass ich nicht alle Teile aufzeichnen und von Hand ausschneiden will. Da Lorenzo die Pläne digitalisiert hatte und sich auf Anfrage bereit erklärte, mir mit der CNC-Fräse einen Bausatz zu fabrizieren, musste ich nicht lange überlegen. An dieser Stelle ein grosses Dankeschön an Lorenzo für seinen grossen Einsatz! Untenstehend ist das erste Bild welches ich von meinem Schiff erhalten habe. Halt noch in 2D.
Letztes Wochenende war es dann so weit, dass ich das fertige Kit abholen und Lorenzo endlich persönlich kennenlernen konnte. Es war wunderbar zum einen den Bausatz und zum anderen das fertige Schiff zu sehen. Der Austausch mit Lorenzo war sehr bereichernd. Erfahrungswerte gehen über alles.

During the construction we noticed more and more how well thought out the design is. And when we were finally able to sail Baba, the outstanding sailing characteristics of the small cruiser convinced us. Lorenzo's Blogg (http://pathfinderastrid.blogspot.com/) and his finished ship Astrid certainly did a lot to help me choose the Pathfinder. Generally, the Pathfinder is praised for its stability, its sailing behavior and its spacious and tidy cockpit. It is also possible to take the boat directly to the beach. Another plus.The plans were quick to order and after studying these it was clear that I did not want to record all parts and cut them by hand. Since Lorenzo had digitized the plans and agreed to make me a kit with the CNC milling machine on request, I did not have to think twice.
